If 1<x <2, then how can we find the possible values that the expression (x-2)^2+x can take?

using inequalities

1-2<x-2 < 2-2

-1<x-2 < 0

0<(x-2)^2 < 1 (1)

and

1<x < 2 (2)

Adding (1) and (2) we have

0+1<(x-2)^2+x < 1+2

1<(x-2)^2+x < 3

and

1<x < 2 (2)

Adding (1) and (2) we have

0+1<(x-2)^2+x < 1+2
